Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon alt-folk, alt-rock, indie folk, indie rock, indie pop, dream pop, and other similar genres along the way, because The Nomadic fully stacked this number with brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship. These additional sonic ingredients serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that unquestionably uplift this song on an entirely new level, while The Nomadic remain loyal to the calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal Americana sound. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary music genres resulted in a mesmerizing song that will appeal to even the pickiest listeners.

REVIEW – The Nomadic Trap Listeners Underwater With A Languid, Loping Americana Alt Rock Tune In “Treading Water”

Following on from the successful release of first album “My Mind is Racing” in January 2022, The Nomadic has released its first single “Treading Water” from the upcoming “New Horizons” album.

The song explores the theme of being ‘stuck’ which is displayed in a very relatable way with the music video, contrasting the entrapment of an office type/ corporate environment, with the freedom of the ocean, where the protagonist escapes, whilst haunted by flashbacks to a former life.

What makes this track one of the best we came across is the wicked guitar work, starting up from a simple acoustic guitar progression and a subtle string arrangement, and then quickly builds momentum with an urgent guitar riff and atmospheric overlays/ overdubs. This progression forms a very catchy tune that will grab the listeners attention throughout the song, very much in the style of the War on Drugs

The lyrics are very well written as they evoke emotions and inspire thoughts that contribute to the song’s overall emotional impact.

The Nomadic is the best of Aussie rock talent, with Miles Thomas (Lior, Ronan Keating, Montaigne) on drums, Oliver Thorpe (The Whitlams, Matt Corby, Meg Mac) on guitar, and Brendan Clark (Meg Mac, Montaigne, Jack River) on bass. There is an excellent use of slide guitars and a steady percussion that grounds the song at the same time that provides a great sense of pacing and time passing. It is truly stellar work, the production on this song is utterly remarkable from start to finish and sounds very organic and fresh.

Lead by singer-songwriter Rob Gaylard, the band comprises Dan Frizza on keyboards (and also a producer), Miles Thomas on drums, Oli Thorpe on lead guitar, an d Brendan Clark on bass. About two months ago, Sydney-based supergroup The Nomadic released a rich and atmospheric alt-rock tune called ‘Treading Water’. It’s still one of my favourite discoveries so far this year, and now the band is back with another beauty in the form of ‘All Changed’. A melancholic rock ballad that deals with life’s major moments, Rob Gaylard and Co. prove once again that they’re a serious force to be reckoned with. “‘All Changed’ is one of the most personal Nomadic songs,” says Rob. “Throughout my Nomadic life I have made friends all over the world, and what has struck me is how there is so much more that unites us than divides us”. With their roots-soaked-synth-and-guitar approach, ‘All Changed’ is the ideal follow-up to ‘Treading Water’, and it really sounds like the act is now honing in on their chosen sound – laidback indie rock ‘n’ roll that just oozes class and honesty.
